Wrapping Myself
Wrapping Myself is a powerful, solo disability theatre production with original live music, dramaturgically informed writing, celebrating older disabled women, exploring isolation, displacement & the labour of lifelong advocacy.
The story centres on ageing disabled matriarch Marina from the punk generation, an artist activist all her life, suddenly mourning her lifelong friend & examining whether their lives as activists have been worth the sacrifices made. The show will provoke conversation about our lives & role in the arts, & share some of our history which remains largely hidden. Cultural leaders will be invited to the preview & post-show discussion, exploring anti-ableist programming & commissioning whilst telling vivid exciting stories with egs from the piece.
A preview performance at ARC in May 2024 will be developed in the 2nd R&D and creation phase. Community workshops will give older disabled women a safe space to examine themes to create their own monologue. 6 professional development sessions to arts staff & disabled artists.
