About Funny Haha Comedy Writers Room
A powerful, hilarious new force has been quietly growing in comedy over the last three years - disabled women doing it for ourselves. Since our initial comedy masterclasses with the incredible Rosie Jones during lockdown, we've grown from being a short online course to a dynamic writers’ room for disabled women writing in a range of comedy forms.
Live Online and In-person Comedy Showcase Event at ARC Stockton
27 September 2023
In 2023 we created a Comedy Showcase and has a book of comedy writings published. We have created characters you will have never seen, written stand up you won't have heard, and will be delivering hilarious brand new lyrics and poetry, all with the potential for cabaret, theatre and TV development.
The Funny Haha Book
The book is perfect for all readers, disabled actors and cabaret performers, and students of disability writing and performance. We are repeatedly told that there isn't an audience for the work of disabled people, so we hope we can rely on you to become part of a groundswell that proves those old views wrong. Political, surreal, hilarious, relatable and a whole range of forms from exceptionally talented writers. The book is available to buy here https://arconline.co.uk/funny-haha-comedy-revolution/
Videos from the Performance
We’re sharing each artists performance from the showcase, some of which feature in the book and some of which are specifically for the writers to perform. The video was captured by Black Robin and was originally just for us as a group but we'd love to reach wider audiences and so we've decided to share them.
Access
The videos are all captioned - NB BSL interpreter Sue Lee from Becoming Visible was our interpreter for the live event only but not for the videos so she is not featured consistently. There is a written visual description of video content above each video for screenreaders.
Video Content
All of the videos are aimed at an adult audience, some of them contain strong language, sexual references, discrimination. They also contain a celebration of disabled women's voices.
Information about the writers
There is an artists bio statement from each artist in the video on you tube so click through to you tube for more information. Writers can be contacted through [email protected]
