Little Cog is a trailblazing company producing work which challenges the myths and misconceptions of disabled people. We are a disabled-led company who creates platforms for new narratives, new protagonists and new ways of thinking about the social and cultural phenomenon of disability, dismantling barriers whilst creating exceptional work with an international reach. We will not stop until we see a significant shift in the cultural and social status of disabled people.
We are predominantly a performance company in radio, theatre, film and television, although we do also co-create exhibitions in multi-disciplinary work with excellent artists and community participants. We work hard to create stories which haven't been seen before in radical and accessible ways. We are committed to collectivism to reduce the isolation and marginalisation of disabled people and often create and support new collectives to develop. Before and during the pandemic our Artistic Director co-founded Disconsortia a disabled-artist led consortium in the North East which actively campaigned for equity in emergency funding for disabled artists to include additional funds for access costs. We were part of the We Shall Not Be Removed movement, managing an access fund in partnership with Graeae Theatre Company. More recently we have created a collaborative network of creative learning disability groups across the Tees Valley. We are supporting Vici Wreford-Sinnott's new projects including IN/Visible which is a collective of disabled women artists over 50 who have been commissioned to create work for a new exhibition at ARC Stockton and Arts Depot London. Funny Haha is a national comedy writers room for disabled women who will be presenting an industry showcase in 2023 alongside a new publication of comedy monologues written by disabled women. We are very committed to working in collaboration with learning disabled artists to ensure that their artistic visions, stories and ideas can be realised in theatrical and performance contexts. You can see more about our long term collaboration with Full Circle here and the recent success of their large outdoor production at SIRF 2022, and their Our Stomping Grounds Festival at ARC Stockton. |
