A Shopping List to Change the World
A Shopping List to Change the World
Everyone will wear colourful dungarees,
And poets will give out poems on every street corner,
Flowers, including non-allergic ones, will be available to all.
Artists will be based in social clubs, bingo halls and libraries.
Political leaders will not get stuck on zip wires.
Wealth will be fairly shared out around the world,
Health and social care, free at the point of need,
Information about important things will be accessible to all.
There will be lessons in caring for our communities, not dividing them,
And our values will be the measure of our success.
Vici Wreford-Sinnott
Common sense will prevail.
Disabled people will become more visible in our communities.
A strong devotion to supporting people of all ages.
Pauline Heath
I reckon we need a daily news broadcast
on emotional intelligence
so people understand what it is.
Examples will be given every day
to demonstrate it.
People will do something that is smart but also kind.
I would really like to see,
a daily binning of shame and judgement.
Just to stop it all.
Animals will be given land
in the same way that people are.
A piece of the pie.
There must be compensation to people whose lives are affected by, and prisoners of, war
Some kind of civilians-in-war compensation scheme.
We will find ways to recycle what happens in war into permanent peace.
Caroline Cardus
Universal Basic Income for everyone, everywhere.
We will no longer ruin the planet,
Like in Vancouver, there will be a ban on shops giving out plastic bags.
It comes down to the production really.
If companies aren’t allowed to produce single-use plastics,
then we won’t be using them.
All local authorities and arts organisation staff will take a course
on providing access and understanding diversity.
It is sorely needed.
Samantha Blackburn
We will only elect women leaders so there’s no ego,
no testosterone, no bullshit.
Worldwide wealth will be spread globally.
Everyone has a basic income.
Worldwide free healthcare.
Free tampons, free condoms, free IVF.
Acceptance of all race, gender, orientation, religion, size, age, disability.
We will accept people for who they are.
People will be allowed to speak.
Art, drama, creative arts will be part of the education system,
Hand in hand with emotional intelligence.
Working through creatively helps people
not just with their mental health
but to grow and think creatively.
There will be proper grief time for the loss of our pets.
We will have pockets in everything.
Honor Flaherty
I’m slightly obsessed with the people
who have made money out of war,
pandemic, distribution of disinformation.
Some people like playing with economics.
But there will be something like snakes and ladders,
you hit one million and you have to slide down and start again.
We will bring back Satish Kumar and his china teapot.
He walked to four presidents in the late 80s
to take a cup of tea with each of them.
I think we will turn all the grenades into yarn bombs.
Missiles will be knitted from angora wool.
If your testosterone and womb envy
means you want war
you will be forced to throw soft, fluffy things.
Some of the money we’re taking
from the obscenely wealthy will go to the NHS.
We will open the doors of every detention centre
and give people land and food.
We will change the purpose of every disability assessment centre.
Those centres will be repurposed
to retrain politicians
and to train successive governments
until we are satisfied they’re fit to lead.
There will be access to training
for anything we’ve missed out.
There will be more food sharing events
and less alcohol driven events
because I keep getting pissed on my own.
Parent skills will be taught.
There will be consent education in every school and every college.
What is consent,
what is a real relationship?
There will be full publicity
by Saatchi and Saatchi and fat activism.
We will stop shaming anyone for anything unless they’re fascists.
We will celebrate all the disabled lives we’ve lost over the last few years.
There will be space to grieve.
Seven that I’m aware of in my life
and that’s too many for one human.
JulieMc McNamara
It starts out with respect,
We’re not going to love or like everybody
but if we can respect each other that would be wonderful.
Joy, there will be more joy,
permission to love things,
and people won’t complain
about cats coming on their zoom calls.
There will be global healthcare, shared wealth, shared knowledge.
Information will be available about
the stuff that can help people,
No longer subjectively released by funding bids.
Somebody said, ‘I don’t need permission’.
We won’t wait for permission and funding
to share knowledge and skills and wealth.
That needs to go, it just needs to be out there.
Depoliticise everything.
Big ‘P’ or a small ‘p’.
Let’s humanise it. Just share it.
Caroline Miles
I want less choice in the supermarket please.
Apparently, some tomatoes have been grown for their taste.
Apparently they will taste nice so we should buy them.
It will no longer be all over Twitter
Tanni (Grey-Thompson) got a text when she’s on the train
Telling her there’s nobody available to help her off the train
It breaks my heart
The only reason that she got any response from the railway
is because she’s Tanni.
People Tweeted, “Why don’t we build every train with a ramp?”
“Why don’t we make transport that everybody can use?”
Why do we build one thing for ‘normal’ people
and one thing for ‘disabled’ people?
All these things, train ramps and kneeling buses.
They already exist.
