Film
Film and digital work has always been an important ingredient in our staged works. Going as far back as Deadly Devotchka which Vici took to the Edinburgh Fringe in 1996 - we filmed and projected 35mm film onto the stage alongside live performance. The piece itself explored film noir representations of women through the characters of Gilda and Lulu. Film on stage is a great way to do a variety of things, interrupt and disrupt, add power, comment on, accentuate, examine, and add a layer of artistry.
Staying visible in the pandemic lockdowns, felt urgent and it was a natural progression into digital artworks and short films. We were lucky to have ARC Stockton, Home Manchester, Northern Stage, Arts Council England and The Space support for Siege and the Wrong Woman discussions, and for Funny Peculiar. Spare Tyre also commissioned a short piece to camera called A Site of Suitable Scale for their Statues for the Unforgotten celebration. And you can see the BBC commission of Hen Night on our TV page.
There is also a filmed workshop commissioned by Disability Arts Online and shared by the Bruntwood Prize on playwriting and disability called The Great British Stage Swindle. A playwriting course for disabled playwrights later grew from this workshop.
