Printmaking with Caroline Cardus
During this introduction to printmaking, facilitated by artist Caroline Cardus, we experimented with the medium creating a series of experimental prints and we present them from our group members as they have created them and also adapted them. A running theme throughout our sessions has been about both the need to make changes to suit accessibility but also that it's okay to break the rules and play.
Caroline Cardus

Printmaking
To Square A Circle
A pink background. Printmaking involves rolling several layers of coloured inks to create abstract images. The artist has selected yellow as a dominant colour, overlaid with small patches of dark blue. A bold white ink has been trailed around the image with bold white drops of ink, creating a very effective 'square' circle.
Little Chances
Printmaking involves rolling several layers of coloured inks to create abstract images. This image is predominantly blue background and has bold mixes of orange, dark blue, and hints of red and yellow. Whit ink has been splattered into drops after the print was complete.
Ready
A very bold blaze of colours in abstract form. Yellows, reds, blues splatter and spread with strong white accents.
Deluge
This abstract image in several colours of ink suggests a volcano of reds, oranges and dark blie. The texture appears slightly frothed and rippled. A waterfall of fire.
Blocks
A strong bright blue background with textured patters of the white paper showing through. A bold streak of read, also textured, runds from the bottom left to the top right of the picture.
Blocks 2
Lilac card background. A strong blue speckled background in ink, over laid with bold patches of red merging in a couple of small places to create dark purple.
Prompts
Strong dar red and blue merge to create a muted plum shade which gives the image depth, a misty street scene, or an alleyway, the viewer can interpret subjectively. Specks of gold create a shower of stars, or glowing fireflies...again up to the viewer.
Honor Flaherty

Abstract Printmaking

Print created on white card. Base inks are in turquoise and olive creating a textured background onto which are many drops of umber, white and blue creating a speckled image. The image draws the viewer in to try to see shape and find imaginatively a narrative.
An experiment with ink and water spray. Pale blue at the base of the image is them dominated by a large mustard and olive coloured mass of ink. At the top of the image we return to blues and greens.
An initial experiment with one bold colour on white card. Bright blue with large patches of white showing through, sky- or sea-like.
Alex Dechbamrung

Abstract Print
Bright blue and green inks merge in the middle, creating a suggestion of a landscape with white patches in the blue. Bold line markings suggest movement, trees, poles, or grasses.
On a background of pink card, there are pale yellows and creams with stronger white marking. There are also patches of dark blue and a caroet of textured red at the bottom of the image.
A fiery image of blending yellows, reds and orange, mixed with dark blue adding depth. There is texture from the ink roller and paper contact, and also from a series of curved marks applied by the artist.
Samantha Blackburn

Abstract print

A4 sized ink print in reds and blues mixing into purples. It is marked with lines sweeping to the right.
A4 ink print - blues and reds have merged and to the left of the image an illusion of a cavern, cave or black hole has been created.
A4 abstract ink print in blues and red, the pattern created is thousands of tiny dots with intermittent larger patches of colour.
A4 abstract image of red and blue inks
A4 abstract ink print where the ink has mixed with water to create a thinner texture and a large mass of merged colour dominates the image.
Lynne McFarlane

Mixed media print

A blue and green ink print image which will suggest different things to different people. It could be seen as blue and gree sea, or a blue landscape with greenery in it. The print has been placed over patterned paper and has a line of text added, 'those who don't believe in magic will never find it'.
Lyne has created a collage using blue print as an element. The back ground is white with bold black numbers onto which the blue print has been placed. Over this Lynne has added an American Patent Office image of a yacht. The image of a woman wearing black and white striped outfit from head to toe including a close fitting hood. Her legs are crossed and hang down below the blue ink overlapping the numbered print.

Abstract print and mark making

Abstract black and grey on cream card creating the effect of a stormy sky
Blue, green and yellow ink with mark making to create the image of a pond or sea with flowers in the foreground and seagulls in the sky. Tiny dots form much of the image.
A black and white ink back ground has been overlaid with pink and small blended patches of yellow. A heart and the words 'proud of you' have been marked out from the pink revealing the black and white underneath.
Abstract black and grey on cream card creating the effect of a stormy sky
A similar blue, green and yellow ink image with mark making to create the image of a pond or sea with flowers in the foreground and seagulls in the sky. This image is slightly more defined with stronger colours and lines.
A mix of shades of bold orange ink with patches of white background showing through and the word 'love' and three love hearts marked out from the white background.
A pile of four cards loosely arranged - all white with either bold orange and yellow abstract prints and a blue and green one.
