Directing Masterclass
with
Garry Robson

Garry Robson is an actor, writer, Director and occasional musician. He’s directed over 40 professional productions both in the UK and also in Italy, Russia and Hong Kong receiving several awards including a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award and a Herald Angel.  He has been a Drama Advisor for both the Arts Council of England and the Scottish Arts Council and was an Unlimited Awards panel member for the Cultural Olympiad. He was Artistic Director of DaDaFest International 2008 and 2010 , establishing DaDaFest as one of the key International Festival for Deaf and Disability Arts and performance worldwide. For DaDaFest 2012 he Co- Curated a major contemporary Arts Exhibition Niet Normaal: Difference on Display at The Bluecoat Liverpool and The Southbank.

As an actor well as numerous roles on TV and Radio including Casualty, The Bill, Pitching In and Silent Witness he has performed in many of the major theatres in the UK in a range of classics and new works. He was Bob/Bill in Graeae’s Ian Dury Musical “Reasons to be Cheerful” & Peachum in their “Threepenny Opera”. He was Uncle Ernie in Ramps on the Moon’s much lauded version of “The Who’s Tommy” and a drag queen called Butch in BoP’s “Blanche and Butch”. Recently he has performed in Ramps “Our Countries Good”,  “Pericles” at The National,  “White Christmas” at Curve, “Kiss Me Quickstrep” for Queens Hornchurch/Theatr Clwyd and “Our Town” at Regents Park Open Air Theatre. Just prior to lockdown he played Arvide Abernethy in Sheffield Crucible’s “Guys and Dolls”.
Directing Masterclass

Drawing on his extensive career in theatre and television, both here in the UK and internationally, highly acclaimed award-winning director Garry Robson has designed a bespoke directing workhop for our masterclass series. Garry has directed a huge variety of work from small scale intimate explorations to large scale main stage work.  He will guide you through his process and things he's learnt throughout his career, bringing a toolbox of tips and advice.

This masterclass is aimed at disabled directors who are looking to refresh their skills, or beginners looking to understand more about directing.

Each masterclass will be accessible but please tell us your access requirements on booking. 

Zoom details will be sent to you the day before the workshop.
