Creative Writing Workshops
Disabled Women's Monologues
Welcome to Little Cog's latest online Sp@ce providing creative workshops for disabled people. We are creating sp@ce for disabled women-identifying and non-binary people to come together to explore the skills in monologue writing. It aims to be a fun session with writing warm-ups, quick-fire free writing, and word hoards, all developing towards writing a short monologue in your own unique voice.
The first workshop is on Friday, 8 March, (2.00-4.00pm) so what a wonderful way to celebrate International Women's Day. This is a series of four identical workshops, three online and one in person at ARC Stockton-on-Tees, so if you just have time for one of them, that's absolutely fine. If people do book for more than one, we'll make sure to vary the writing exercises, and you can continue your monologue or create a brand new one. It's rewarding for everyone attending to hear each other's work, but if that isn't you, please don't worry; it's not compulsory. We'd love to give you writing credits by publishing the monologues on our website and promoting them on social media. Again, though, this is your choice! We'll draw our material from the writing exercises and focus on confidence in writing and skill development. The environment will be supportive and encouraging and will celebrate disabled women coming together to be creative. No one is expected to discuss or disclose negative or traumatic experiences. Booking is on the Eventbrite links below. Friday 8 March - 2pm-4pm (online) Wednesday 13 March - 3.30pm-5.30pm (online) Monday 18 March - 1.30pm-3.30pm (online) Tuesday 19 March - 6pm-8pm (in person at ARC Stockton) |
Cost - the sessions are free but booking is essential. If you have any problems with Eventbrite get in touch with is at [email protected] Access - please complete your access requirements when booking and let us know if there are subjects you'd like us to avoid in conversation. We hope everyone will have an opportunity to contribute but please do note that it's also fine to attend and just listen in if your access means taking part wouldn't work for you. We have a mutual responsibility for the care of everyone attending and to be mindful that it is a one off discussion using a solution focussed approach without a facility for ongoing support. Definition - We use the term disabled artists in line with the social model of disability in an effort to house a fully inclusive umbrella. We acknowledge not everyone uses that model and for clarity Deaf people, neurodivergent people and people with chronic conditions are included and invited to these sessions. Culture of the session - the sessions are offered on the basis of mutual respect and anti-discrimination. Ableism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, gender based discrimination, ageism and any other discrimination will not be tolerated. We are inviting people to let us know if there are areas of content they would specifically like us to avoid and we would ask everyone to be mindful about not describing trauma. We ask everyone to be considerate with their 'air-time' and to keep comments concise enough for others to have opportunities to contribute. Cancellation - we understand that circumstances change. If you are no longer able to attend please let us know to free up your place for another disabled artist. UK based disabled artists only please. |
