Little Cog and Full Circle were delighted to be commissioned to create a new show for SIRF this year as we had such a brilliant time being part of the festival in 2022, and in many ways that performance Stomping Ground, the show we performed then on our huge purpose built, accessible stage, paved the way for the Our Stomping Grounds Festival we went on to develop.
We've been developing physical comedy skills for quite some time now - we've made short comedy films for previous festivals, always have witty and funny elements in our shows, no matter how serious the subject matter. Our Artistic Director, Vici Wreford-Sinnott has done lots of training in physical theatre, clown work and mask work and often draws on those methods in the work she tours. She uses these skills often with Full Circle. In addition, we invited Pady O'Connor from Mee Mee Theatre to come and do a residency with us, spending time on mask work, commedia dell'arte physicality, and clown work, which led us into some ideas for a cabaret piece. Last year we invited Tees Valley writer and performer Scott Turnbull to deliver a Wigs and Moustaches workshop in physical comedy which was excellent fun. You can see a short video here of some of that work, and you can see the beginnings of the Market Inspector character which the company went on to devise a whole new show around.
The Market Inspector has been great fun to make, and has taken a lot of devising skill to create a set of characters and a world for them to inhabit. The piece centres around perfectionism and how pompous we can become if misguided.
